Description

The plot unfolds against the backdrop of the Pugachev Rebellion and centers on the fate of a young officer named Pyotr Grinyov. Sent to serve in the remote Belogorsk Fortress, Pyotr falls in love with the commandant’s daughter, Masha Mironova, and enters into a conflict with the dishonorable officer Shvabrin.

When the fortress is captured by the rebels, Grinyov’s life is saved by a chance acquaintance with Emelyan Pugachev himself, to whom Pyotr had once gifted a hare-skin coat. After enduring arrest, accusations of treason, and mortal danger, Pyotr remains loyal to his oath and his honor
